About Vegetable Oil
Vegetable oil is an edible oil extracted from plant sources such as soybeans, sunflower seeds, corn, canola, coconut, and cottonseed. It is commonly used in cooking, frying, baking, and food processing because of its neutral taste and high smoke point. Because of these qualities, it is a key ingredient in both household and industrial kitchens. Overall, it is valued for its versatility, long shelf life, and balanced fat composition.
The production process usually starts with crushing or pressing the oil-bearing material to release the oil. After this, manufacturers may use hexane to extract additional oil from the pulp. The remaining solids become animal feed. Meanwhile, the crude oil moves into the refining stage. Then, the oil goes through a series of steps to improve taste, clarity, and stability.
To ensure safety, quality, and purity, crude vegetable oil goes through the RBD process — Refining, Bleaching, and Deodorizing.
Refining
We treat the oil with phosphoric acid and caustic soda to remove gums, free fatty acids, and impurities. As a result, the oil becomes cleaner and more stable.
Bleaching
Next, we heat the oil and mix it with filter aids such as clay or diatomaceous earth. This step helps absorb unwanted color and contaminants. Furthermore, it improves clarity and shelf stability.
Deodorizing
Finally, we heat the oil under vacuum and use steam to remove odors and any remaining impurities. Consequently, the oil becomes neutral and suitable for a wide range of products.
Through the full RBD process, the oil becomes clear, odorless, and stable. Therefore, it is ideal for both consumption and industrial use.
